What are Superabsorbents?

Superabsorbents are super-absorbent polymers (very large molecules). Because of their broad range of properties, both synthetic and natural polymers play an essential role in everyday life. SNF market superabsorbents under the Aquasorb brand, and they’re supplied in three different types.

With the ability to absorb and release up to 400 times its own weight in water, Aquasorb is widely used in the horticultural and agricultural sectors. Practical applications include reducing transplant shock and maintaining water supply while new root systems are being established, and being used as an addition to soils and composts for retaining water in hanging baskets etc.

Aquasorb is applied to instances where rapid take up of water and swelling rates are required. These include cooling scarves used to combat ‘hot flushes’, flood defence products and feed additives which are food supplements for farm animals that cannot get enough nutrients from their regular meals.

For applications where moisture control is an important part of a product or the application environment, Aquasorb is the best option. It is a superabsorbent woven polyester fabric which retains large amounts of moisture and water vapour.
