Internal storage of frost sensitive liquid products is not always available or suitably positioned within sites for many of our UK based customers and subsequently we have found that the position that they have to use to store their IBCs of liquid emulsion polymers can have quite a negative effect due to being in direct sunlight during daylight hours with cooler nights (or -5 degrees Celsius/cold weather also).
This hot and cold cycle is very similar to our planets evaporation cycle which is exerted predominantly on our oceans to produce fresh water, this can also happen in the enclosed confines of the IBC. Water is released from the liquid emulsion polymer and condenses on the inside, upper surface of the IBC containers, small drops of fresh water then condense and slowly can drip back into the mass of un-hydrated polymer generating lumps, skins, gels etc. in the normally smooth emulsion product.
This has been noted to lead in some cases to initially reduced polymer solution concentrations as there is a reduce suction from the preparation pump and even resulting in total failure. This leads to blocked pumps and then subsequent poor solids treatment is at this stage, inevitable.
Protective IBC jackets (like the one pictured below) have recently been introduced to help maintain and resist fluctuations in temperature of the supplied emulsion products therefore significantly reducing the heating and cooling cycle within the IBC.
The insulated jackets simply slip over the whole container with the heavy-duty velcro fastening flap being positioned forward to allow easy inspection of the contents/level determination markings.
